Life in the Present: A 6-Step Approach
The idea of being mindful — being present, being more conscious of life as it happens — may seem contradictory to those who are used to sacrificing living for pursuing their goals and looking towards the future, but living in the present will help you, be productive, achieve your goals and enjoy life more.
I have come up with 6 ways to be mindful and I know there are many more. If you have any please post them so they can be shared with everyone.
1. Do one thing at a time.
Single tasks help you to focus and be mindful of what you are doing. When you are eating just eat and savour each bite. Zen proverb: “When walking, walk. When eating, eat.” Take your time with each task by doing it slowly and deliberate. This will help you focus on the task.
2. Do less.
By doing less, you can do things more slowly, more completely and with more concentration. By filling your day with only what is of value you will learn to let go of what is not important. Our lives are not important because we are always busy our lives are important because we value all that we do.
3. Spend at least 5 minutes with just you.
Just sit in silence. Become aware of your thoughts. Focus on your breathing. Notice the world around you. Become comfortable with the silence and stillness. It’ll do you a world of good — and just takes 5 minutes!
4. Stop worrying about the future.
Worrying does not contribute to a positive future. Recognize when you’re doing this, and then practice bringing yourself back to the present. Just focus on what you’re doing, right now. Enjoy the present moment and continue moving forward to the future you want.
5. When you’re talking to someone, be present.
How many of us have spent time with someone and have been thinking about all the other things we have to do. Instead, focus on being present, on really listening, on really enjoying your time with that person. We never know the impact we have on others and they are worthy of our attention.
6. Live slowly and savor your life.
Just as you would savor your food by eating it more slowly, do everything this way — slow down and savor each and every moment. Tune into the sights and sounds and awaken your senses to the world around you. Feel the breeze rush by you and the heat of the sun on your skin. Enjoy being part of something that is far bigger than all of us.

I was curious about haunted places in Canada and went searching the web and was so surprised to find so many of them. I thought I would bring you just a few today.
The Haunted HI-Ottawa Jail Hostel
The Nicholas Street Gaol was the main jail of Ottawa for over a century. The structure was built in 1862 next door to the courthouse, and connected by a tunnel. Designed by Henry Horsey, the jail was the site of the hanging of Patrick J. Whelan on February 11, 1869, for the assassination of Thomas D’Arcy McGee. Over 5,000 people witnessed Whelan’s hanging, which was a large number considering the size of Ottawa at that time. Staff and guests have reported that Whelan’s spirit is one of many that haunts the hostel and will appear at the end of guests’ beds or in his death-row cell. The third (official) and final execution at the jail took place on March 27, 1946, when Eugène Larment, who had killed an Ottawa police detective, was hanged. The building remained in use as a jail until 1972 when the outdated facility was closed. The original gallows, however, are intact and remain fully functional. While open, the jail inflicted very inhumane conditions upon those imprisoned there and modern day excavations of the property have revealed numerous unmarked graves. Up to 150 prisoners, consisting of men, women, and children, would be forced to share 60 small cells (1×3 meters) and 30 larger cells (2×3 meters); as well as six solitary confinement units. Inmates included murderers, the mentally ill, or those incarcerated for minor infractions such as drunk and disorderly conduct.
Mount Royal Cemetery
Green grass punctuated by marble white grave markers every few feet, in an area so big you’re sure to get lost: this one is a no brainer. Apparently most ghost activity happens after sunset, when the cemetery is host to shadowy figures lingering on the bluffs, as well as the infamous “Algonquin Indian”—a Native American warrior of legend who is said to lurk on the cliffs nearby.
The Queen Elizabeth Hotel
Most famous for the time John Lennon and Yoko Ono stayed there in 1969 while protesting the Vietnam War, this hotel has been host to many famous historical figures, but only one lives on in eternal infamy.
Through the halls of this regal old dame there is said to be a wandering woman in white, who occasionally visits the rooms of guests.
Other inexplicable phenomena such as disembodied voices, mysterious sounds like bangs and knocks, footsteps, cold spots, and people being touched or pushed by unseen forces have also been reported. Spooky!
Although Toronto is a relatively young city by international standards, we seem to have crammed a decent amount of murder and mayhem into our brief but vivid history.
Gooderham & Worts Distillery (now known as the Distillery District)
James Worts apparently continues to show up for work at the former mill, opening and closing doors (and occasionally walking through them), banging around, playing with the lights, and giving workmen and visitors some scary surprises. (Near Parliament and Mill streets.)
Colborne Lodge
Colborne Lodge in High Park has been host to a number of unexplained sightings, some of which have been identified as resembling Mrs. Jemima Howard, wife of John Howard. The area to the east of Grenadier Pond has also seen some activity from what have appeared to be phantom soldiers, possibly dating back to 1813. (In High Park)
Regis College
Regis College, the former Christie Mansion, has a particularly vivid tale (mistress hidden in a secret room by her married lover becomes increasingly neglected and hangs herself) to explain its doors that close and lock with no apparent assistance. (100 Wellesley Street West)
Glendon College
Glendon College (including Glendon Hall, the Hilliard residence and the Wood manor) has been the site of numerous seemingly supernatural occurrences, including sightings of a mysterious female figure in the rose garden by the library, voices in the basement, the “sense” of a hanging body at the staircase, and a residence room where occupants wake up to find unexplained markings on their legs. (York University, Glendon Campus. 2275 Bayview Avenue)
Old Fort York
Old Fort York (including the Garrison, the Centre Blockhouse and the Officer’s Quarters) saw much horrible carnage over three separate battles, and visitors and staff have reported odd noises, presences, and visitations—including a ghostly woman visiting the Officer’s Quarters, and a red-coated guard near the entrance and in the barracks. Spadina House.
Staff and visitors to Spadina House have been treated to some benign supernatural appearances, including a grey, ghostly mass in the non-public areas that may or may not be associated with, of all things, a taxidermist’s mounted wolf on display. (285 Spadina Road)
The Guild Inn grounds in Scarborough have a history of unusual presences, some benign, others a little more intense. Most of the appearances are behind the old buildings in the ‘theatre’ area, and not in the (now closed) buildings themselves. (201 Guildwood Parkway)
Gibraltar Point Lighthouse
Such is the ghostly history of Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, on Toronto Island, that even the historical plaque affixed to it mentions its reputation as a haunted building. Lighthouse keeper John Paul Rademuller was gruesomely murdered and apparently can be sighted, on occasion, climbing up the tower and searching the grounds for his lost limbs. (Centre Island)
Elgin and Winter Garden Theatres
Elgin and Winter Garden Theatres are supposedly among the most haunted locations in Toronto. One of several presences in the building apparently likes to call the elevator to the fifth floor (and presumably ride down with the other passengers). (189 Yonge Street)

Awesome is a state of mind, one that you can pull off easily when in the right state. By Monday the Moon moves into a position to help you boost your career when you need it the most, bringing a fire and passion forward you may not have known you had. Use this energy wisely, as it will boost you forward through the rest of the week, making it an Awesome week for the Bulls!!!!
